An arthropod community beyond the dry limit of plant life

چکیده
Water availability, which enables plant growth and animal activity, regulates dryland ecosystem function. In hyper-arid ecosystems, rain cannot support vascular growth. Therefore, vegetation is restricted to the lower topography, where runoff accumulates. Typically, food resources originating from areas of dense are dispersed across desert floor, enabling life in lacking However, certain regions, such as upper may be devoid plant-derived resources. The present study examined arthropod activity topography a desert, comparison with topography. Pitfall traps were utilized compare along unvegetated ridges parallel, vegetated riverbeds. Surprisingly, revealed communities barren Arthropods collected represented 26% total abundance. addition, overlap between identity wadis (i.e., riverbeds) was low, arthropods strongly affiliated ridges. topographic included high numbers silverfish (Zygentoma: Lepismatidae), malachite beetles (Psiloderes), predatory mites (Acari: Anystidae), these at various stages. It remains unclear how can persist area. These results raise possibility that other sources, independent plants, play significant role history arthropods.

abstract: about 60% of total premium of insurance industry is pertained?to life policies in the world; while the life insurance total premium in iran is less than 6% of total premium in insurance industry in 2008 (sigma, no 3/2009). among the reasons that discourage the life insurance industry is the problem of adverse selection. adverse selection theory describes a situation where the inf...

To test the hypothesis that genes have extended phenotypes on the community, we quantified how genetic differences among cottonwoods affect the diversity, abundance, and composition of the dependent arthropod community. Over two years, five major patterns were observed in both field and common-garden studies that focused on two species of cottonwoods and their naturally occurring F1 and backcro...
متن کاملLife without water: expression of plant LEA genes by an anhydrobiotic arthropod.
Anhydrobiotic animals protect cellular architecture and metabolic machinery in the dry state, yet the molecular repertoire supporting this profound dehydration tolerance is not fully understood. For the desiccation-tolerant crustacean, Artemia franciscana, we report differential expression of two distinct mRNAs encoding for proteins that share sequence similarities and structural features with ...
